It looks like it even works that way in STRSQL. My JUNK file only has FLD1 and FLD2. I entered this: UPDATE BMORRIS/JUNK SET FLD3 = 'a' and it happily put up the confirmation message that I was going to update all the records in my file. I only got the "No FLD3 column" message after I pressed enter to confirm.
