In mailing lists as in any other non-visual communication mode it is best to
avoid directness when it can be mistaken for curtness or condescension.  As
the poster, it is incumbent upon you to choose appropriate wording.  Phrases
like "No knowledgeable person" are almost by definition going to offend
someone, and should probably be avoided. 

For example, I could have said "No knowledgeable person uses the phrase 'No
knowledgeable person' on a mailing list" but my sophisticated satire might
have been mistaken for rudeness or lack of civility <grin>.
