I do not know why IBM does not provide this, but I do know that the iSeries
team does not have infinite development resources and even though they
would inherit a lot of the functionality to run on Linux for "free" to call
it a supported platform requires resources.

I have heard in the past from IBMers that if you want something the best
way to get it is to make it an official requirement through whatever the
appropriate channels are. That is the best way for a development manager
to be able to get the backing they need to add a feature like this. I am
sure the development team would like to add this, but I do not think they
can just make the decision themselves.

Personally, I would like to see IBM make a way to install a minimal version
of WDSC into any version of Eclipse (on any platform). Just give me the
pure Java plugins for RSE and the iSeries Dev tools. I do not need
WebFacing, or a lot of the other value-adds they provide. Just give me the
RPG dev tools and let me install them where I want.

Mark
