Hope the following helps. The following I posted sometime back in the
forum.
After a few heart burning weekends, the following method, is what I
employed to setup the Data and Quantum DB (plugin).
(1) Data Perspective - (Under the view - DB server- use NEW CONNECTION).
for Database vendor type: select "DB2 Universal Database for
iseries ... " (appropriate OS version)
for JDBC driver: select "Other Driver "
for JDBC driver class: keyin
"com.ibm.as400.access.AS400JDBCDriver "
for class location: select the appropriate "JT400.JAR"
(probably the latest and greatest version)
for connection URL: keyin "jdbc:as400://YOUR SYSTEM
NAME;translate binary=true"
(2) Quantum DB Perspective
Pretty much the same thing, but once the driver is selected from the
list of 3rd party driver, all you have to use is proper driver/driver
class/version/path and for the URL keyin "jdbc:as400://YOUR SYSTEM
NAME;translate binary=true"
I thought, this might help someone else and avoid going thro' the
heartache, I have been thro' . Though I have been working in Iseries, more
than a decade, I prefer Quantum DB plugin (loads quicker all the views) no
offense to IBM. I am currently using these perspective as an interactive
SQL.
Good-luck, any help let me know.
Thanks for the group and Don for all the help

May I interject here? I downloaded the Quantum DB plugin (ver 3.0 for
my WDSC v6.0), but how do you install it?
I copied the contents of the .zip file to
C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\SDP\6.0\eclipse\plugins.
I restarted WDSC (several times) and even tried recreating my iSeries
connection (not that that would matter in this case) - but I could never
get access to the Quantum DB Perspective.
Can you, or anyone, tell me the proper procedure for installing this
plugin?
Thanks

I am currently evaluating Prodata's GUI DBU database access utility for
use
by our other WDSc users. I would appreciate it if anyone could
recommend
similar plugins to compare it to.
</snip>
There is a (free) product called Quantum DB which I believe is available
from www.SourceForge.net. Be sure to download the version that
corresponds to your version of Eclipse (2.0/3.0). I used it under 2.0.
It establishes its own perspective and uses an SQL interface. Unlike
DBU (which I also have, green-screen and GUI) Quantum does not directly
support modifying data in the file. You would use the SQL Update
statement to change data.
There is also a product called Frog for IBM iSeries DB2. This is NOT a
WDSc plugin, but is similar in function to Quantum.
The only thing I don't like about the DBU GUI WDSc plugin is that all it
really does is provide a link to start up their GUI product (which is
stand-alone). The GUI does not create its own perspective or perform
anything within the WDSc framework. Having said that, I have used DBU
(green-screen) for many years and am very happy. The GUI is nice, but
not as intuitive as it could be.
Hope that helps,
