"All in all I'm thinking the iSeries did pretty well despite the lack of backward compatibility." ABSOLUTELY - I'm still convinced its the best box on the planet. And I coded, tested and installed the fix in less than four hours (after identifying what needed to be fixed) and today all three applications that were affected are back to normal. "Personally, I'd still have liked to see an option that would allow the command to work like it used to; the lack thereof is to my mind a rather serious flaw in IBM's decision-making process." I agree with this also - lets hope they learned their lesson - I saw some talk somewhere in my research (of the problem) about adding a parm to 'truncate blanks'... darned if I remember exactly where it was - but it doesn't matter now as I've learned enough this week that I won't soon forget this problem should it or a similar problem re-appear in the future.. And finally I did uninstall 5.1.2.5 using the add/remove programs applet, and it worked very well. It even removed the distributed debugger (which freed an addtional half gig (I think?)). I only had to delete a few folders that were leftovers. I then rebooted just to clear the ram and did the install and the updates. Now it's play time <G>.
