Well, here's the scoop directly from IBM. I spoke with an Account
Development Rep about when WDSC based off Eclipse 3 and with WAS 6.0 support
would be released. He spoke directly with the WebSphere development staff
and all they would say is that they are working on it and that it would
still be called WDSC. They have no release date which the rep and I decided
probably meant 6+ months down the road.

Will all the new Rational naming it would really have been nice if IBM would
have laid things out for us developers in a simple and complete way so we
know what's going on and what will be happening so we know what product we
need now and in the near future.

It appears that for now when we switch to WAS 6.0 us developers that work on
both iSeries programming and web development will have to run 2 IDEs at the
same time on our desktops, a Rational product like RAD or RWD to work on web
development and on old version of WDSC to work on anything that sits on the
iSeries. I hope everyone has a big, beefy desktop computer. Am I right?

John.

I say Mark's guessing is pretty accurate from what I know.

This is my best understanding:

Old Name New Name
Site Developer (WSSD) Rational Web Developer (RWD)
Application Developer (WSAD) Rational Application Developer (RAD)

The other Rational products are just new flavors with different features
and focus, such as on Modelling and Design or Testing.

AFAIK, WDSC is still going to be called WDSC. So I would assume the
standard version will just be built on top of RWD and the Advanced on top
of RAD.

This is all a guess though.

Mark
