That would explain it. It didn't occur to me that IBM would use such an
outdated version of Tomcat to Java enable their HTTP server.

I was just trying out some options for running WebFaced applications.

Thanks,
Kelly

Paul,

I suspect Kelly is talking about HTTP server (apache) with Tomcat 3.2.4.
Im not sure if that version of tomcat can run webfacing, but im pretty sure
that tomcat 4.1+ can?

cheers

Kelly,

Can we first get clear on what you use ?

An HTTP server can't run Java applications... so either it must be Websphere
(Express) or Tomcat.

Also, what do you mean with "put the WAR file in the webapps directory"
(which is the full path) ? Don't you use the WAS console to 'Install' the
application ?

Kind regards,
Paul

I haven't actually gone looking for log files. Not sure which ones to look
for or where they would be stored.

In the Web Administration tool, I stop the HTTP server, put the WAR file in
the webapps directory, and start the HTTP server again. I then wait a couple
of minutes. When I click the refresh button the server shows as stopped. The
WAR file has been expanded and all the directories are there. But the HTTP
server just won't start.

Thanks,
Kelly

Hi Mike,

Not really... there's even a Redbook that explains how to do it with Tomcat.

BTW is Apache failing to start (I don't see any reason why it shouldn't by
applying a new WAR), or is Tomcat failing ? If so, which messages ?

Kind regards,
Paul

I think Webfacing requires a Websphere app server

>>> KCookson@xxxxxxxxxxxx 3/9/2005 9:16 AM >>>
Well, I wasn't able to get a WebFaced application to run in a Java enabled
IBM HTTP server (Apache). It runs the snoop JSP and calculator Servlet
supplied by IBM fine. It also expands the WAR file and runs a web
application I developed myself fine.

But when I put a WebFaced WAR file in the webapps directory, the HTTP server
won't start up successfully. I set a URL Mount Point, URL path, and
Application base directory in the ASF Tomcat Settings. I also tried without
these. Neither way worked.

Oh well, worth a shot, I guess.

Kelly
