3581 ultrium tape 2U Autoloader model L28

Just upgraded our 810 to V5R3 and put in a new tape drive also.  
  
We typically load 6 tapes on Monday for the week and then remove 1 each
day to go Off-Site.  
I have this tape drive set to AUTOLOAD =ON
                                       LDR MODE =AUTOMATIC although I
have tried it with default mode of SEQ.
                                       LOOP MODE = OFF

The problem is that when the daily save is completed, the tape is
unloading, but the next tape is Not Loading.  I come in the next morning
and it tells me 'Drive Empty'

I notice that when we load tapes the display panel shows that it is in
SEQ mode.  However after the tape is unloaded, the mode seems to switch
to Random(nothing on the display panel) 

 Wondering if anybody has experience with this tape drive.  Have you run
into these problems and if so, how do I get around them.
