We had a lot of people complain about the content assist window
automatically appearing when they pressed the % key (this was the only
thing that auto-activated content assist that I am aware of), so we
disabled this until we can add a preference for it.  So for now the only
way to get content assist is by pressing Ctrl + Space.

This should work : )  Can you give me a specific scenario.  Make sure the
lock icon (the one farthest to the left) is not depressed then click on a
filter, library or source physical file in the Remote Systems view.  I take
it you don't see the contents of what you selected in the Remote Systems
view?  If not then please send me your .log file from %workspace
root%\.metadata\.log
