I don't know the QCCSID but I can find out.  We are still at V5R2 though.

What is the system value QCCSID set to on your iSeries--65535? Is the 
iSeries at V5R3? Just a crazy thought, as V5R3 gets nasty about jobs with a 
CCSID of 65535 - Java connections fail.
