I've had pretty good luck avoiding the registry scan--so far. Last year I installed the wrong Cisco VPN client on my pc at home. Cisco's official instructions for uninstalling that version included a long list of registry keys to delete. The uninstall routine from Add/Remove Programs ignored them and it was impossible to install the correct version without the registry cleanup. There's something wrong here. I think I'm too mesmerized by marketing buzz to figure it out. <g> -----Original Message----- From: wdsci-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:wdsci-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Joe Pluta Sent: Sunday, September 05, 2004 12:29 PM To: 'Websphere Development Studio Client for iSeries' Subject: RE: [WDSCI-L] Fix pack woes > From: Jon Paris > > I guess that is possible if the uninstall didn't do its job Joe. When uninstalling/reinstalling (which is what 5.1.2 does, in effect), I do just that: after uninstalling, I then delete all folders (other than the workspaces, for obvious reasons!). Next, I clear the registry of any entries that say WebSphere (I use RegEdit and hit F3 to search the registry; generally, I leave the HKEY_CURRENT_CLASSES stuff alone). Once the machine is cleaned, only then do I do an install. > Do you know if I can just delete them? Last time, just deleting the old folder worked - once I deleted it and restarted WDSC, the update worked fine. It took three days to figure this out, though - IBM's suggested action was uninstall and reinstall.
