RSE Verify problem external data area

Even though I can compile the program properly on the iSeries, the
verifier cannot seem to handle my externally defined 
 data structure defined like this:
     D HSFS001MDA    EUDS                  EXTNAME(HSFS001MDA:*all)

The file HSFS001MDA is in the data files library and the library is
defined to RSE.  But I keep on
getting the error that there are no fields in the data structure.

I have looked in the archives and Googled and cannot seem to find a
reference for this situation.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance,
