That sounds cool. The problem is the term LPEX, which can mean either E editor or the RSE editor, which is often called jLPEX to distinguish the two. In CODE, I don't think this is possible.

I don't have that problem. For example, I can right click a source member in RSE and open it for browse. If I then double click the same source member (or right click and choose Open With LPEX), a new window is not opened. The current edit window simply changes from Browse mode to Edit mode, and I don't even lose my place in the program. Is this different from what you're asking for?
