WDSc 'Problems during startup.' error

I had some problems with WDSc this morning and had to end the application in 
task manager.  After rebooting WDSc won't start.  I get a dialog box with 
'Problems during startup.  Check the ".log" file in the ".metadata" directory 
of your workspace.'

The short version of the .log file is 'MESSAGE Problems occurred when invoking 
code from plug-in: "org.eclipse.ui.workbench".' followed by a lot of JAVA 
exception informaion.  Farther down is another error 'MESSAGE Exception 
launching the Eclipse Platform' followed by more JAVA exception information.

Has anyone encountered this before?  How do I get WDSc to start again?
