Aaron: If you're already an advanced beginner in Java, my opinion is that the main things you need to know about JSP are: 1. What are the "pre-defined" objects (a/k/a implicit objects) available to all JSP pages (see http://javaboutique.internet.com/tutorials/JSP/part11/page07.html) 2. How to balance the starts and ends of JSP tags (<% and %>) 3. How to intersperse JSP tags with HTML or Javascript 4. How to access JSP results within HTML or Javascript (<%=variablename%>) Perhaps not worth a book - you might want to consider just spending another 20 minutes, and I'd guess you'd have it nailed enough to enter into "trial and error land" Some potentially useful links: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/J2EE/Intro2/jsp/jsp.h tml http://www.jsptut.com http://javaboutique.internet.com/tutorials/JSP MP date: Wed, 19 Nov 2003 12:43:33 -0600 from: "Bartell, Aaron L. (TC)" <ALBartell@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> subject: [WDSCI-L] JSP and WebSphere App Server Had a spare 20 minutes so I decided to check out the features in WDSc that had to do with WebSphere App Server, and try and learn JSP at the same time. I followed one of the tutorials (Insurance Claims) to create an entire application and was surprised to have it build the entire app successfully _and_ WAS started up just fine. Very impressed (don't ask me why, I just wasn't expecting that). Good job on that tutorial/template WDSc Team! Now I am really excited to learn JSP's so I can start creating my own apps. Anybody have any suggestions on where to get good JSP information that won't lose me on the first page? I already know Java at a "experienced beginner" level. I am looking through the WDSc JSP documentation right now. Thanks, Aaron Bartell
