Joe, I agree 100% with you on this. While in CODE the editor was pretty much the IDE, reality is different in WDSC. The editor doesn't even own the toolbar (to refer to the specific example in here).

While it is relatively easy (all is relative :-)) to change the LPEX pop-up menu dynamically, via the "popup" editor parameter, global menus and toolbars belong to the workbench, certain operations (such as opening a file) belong to the workbench or to the product plug-in, etc. etc. Some things can no longer be accomplished (or at least not dynamically) from inside the editor (e.g., certain workbench features can only be done via mark-up in a plugin.xml).

Violaine, I'm a little confused about this particular answer.  Isn't one of
the core concepts of Eclipse the fact that there is a standard way to add
buttons and menu options?  I haven't been playing with plug-ins lately, but
I thought that was the whole idea of a Perspective: you could add buttons
and options very easily.
