Hello,

I finally figured out what was going on or at least I think I did. It turns out that security was tightened a little bit more in our shop. The app was attempting to execute a stored procedure after log on and access to stored procedures is now limited. I guess that explains why I was able to log on but the end user could not.

Fortunately, there is an HA system available where the restrictions are not enforced (at least for now) so I redirected the app to go the HA system and now everything is working normally. This resolves the end user issue but that doesn't explain why the error at the connection was coming back as a blank string with no description at all.

In any case, thanks for the suggestions.

Do you use powertech? Only thing I can think of is that something is interfering with the connection (powertech loves to do that with their exit points).

Yes...

She screened-shared her computer and gave me control, I ran the app on her computer and was able to log on without issues. I also ran the app on my computer and gave her access, she tried to log on but had the error. I thought that maybe she limited to one session so I had her close all open iSeries sessions that she had, then tried the app again and still got the same error.

When doing the tests with one profile versus another profile was it being done on the same machine?

Subject: [SystemiDotNet] Getting an error while connecting to the iSeries...

Hello,

I am running into an error while connecting to the iSeries. This is a windows-based application written in VB.NET that connects to the iSeries. The end user gets a log on screen at connection.open() as expected. She types her user profile and pwd and clicks ok. I have the application display any errors if there are any. I have the app display a message box with the error but the error is coming back blanks..

IBM.Data.DB2.iSeries.iDB2HostErrorException was caught
ErrorCode=-2147467259
Message=
MessageCode=0
MessageDetails=""
Source=IBM.Data.DB2.iSeries
SqlState=""
StackTrace:

InnerException:

The weird thing is that I use my profile and pwd and log in fine. I compared my profile to hers and they are basically the same. I couldn't find any differences that would cause a problem at log on. She can log on to the iSeries via an emulator so her profile is not expired or disabled.

I would appreciate any suggestions or if anybody has run into this situation and has resolved it, please let me know how you did it...

Thank you in advance ...

Antonio Mira
