Which is faster SELECT COUNT(*) FROM TABLE WHERE X = @X AND Y = @Y or SELECT
X, Y FROM TABLE WHERE X = @X AND Y = @Y

We are having some major performance issues doing a batch update. The update
runs in just minutes without a duplicate record check, as soon as wee add in
the above logic, it adds at least 30 minutes to the run. I I know it has to
do with the above query, I am just wondering if one might be faster. There
is no "unique field" as both make it unique.
