Hi to all. Does anyone know of a direct way to query what an item's top
level parent is? assuming you have an indented BOM?

It's actually kind of embarrassing that System21 doesn't come with an
end-item report.
We had to write a custom program to make recursive calls to MSP28 to
"climb" up the BOMs to get a listing.
Query/400 can do it, too, but you need a series of them called with a CL
program.
Use the output of one Query as the input to another, and so on. You end
up with a list of parts with components but no parents (I.e. "top level"
parts)

We needed a single table of fully indented structures for many reasons.
We
based our modification off of an existing System 21 program to create
the
table nightly that can be queried against as needed.

Mon, you should be able to use the 10/MDE option with a "3" or "4"
option for the "Inquiry Type".
You will see all the parents the component is used in, in an indented
where used list.

System 21 isn't the only ERP system without the feature. Nearly all the
ERP
variants operating on the AS/400 don't have the capability.

There is a way to do it but the process requires a third party ERP "bolt
on".
