you can change PL462... I'm running aurora here and there is a constant L00075 
which holds the max value of a check. Here you see it set to 10
million:

 D  SYSN                   1      7  0                        
 D L00075          C                   CONST(10000000)        
 D L00076          C                   CONST('*****')         

You could change that and recompile as a mod. I know you are at V3 though so I 
don't know if its the same there.

Are you still running Optio? If so and you are printing checks through that you 
could always add the logic to your optio document and not make any 
modifications at all.
