Adding an Item to a Menu -- SYSTEM21

As a newbie to the JBA world, I was wondering if anyone had any 
documentation which would show the proper steps (in order) which need to 
be taken in order to add a new option to an existing menu.  I've looked at 
the Application Manager documentation for maintaining Menus and Tasks, but 
have found it very confusing.  Can anyone help??
