We did a part number conversion here. It took several months. The time consuming task was the need to remark items that were in inventory. We also needed to remark drawings for our manufactured items. I would recommend breaking up the job into groupings that make sense for your organization. Here we broke up the job by manufactured/purchased by product group minor. We completely fininshed one group before starting another. In our case, we stored the old part number as an alternative reference (INP38) in case a customer called using the old version. The approach we took was to write a generic SQL statement that referenced a file that contained the filename and field name that contained the part number. A second file contained the old part number and the new part number. The file containing the places in the JBA database that contain part number may not be complete for your situation. We do not use all of JBA's modules. In addition, the list also contains files and field names that were developed for custom applications. Contact me off list if you would like the file. Any inputs (encouraging and discouraging would be welcome). Also, any material re: this would be heaven sent. Thanks. Mon Ferriols Data Management and Control Ionics EMS, Inc.
