We have strived to keep our modifications to a minimum, or at least restrict mods to 'bolt-ons'. We have our own in-house coders and we have a policy of writing everything in ILE so we are looking forward to Aurora and its benefits. Its always a dilemma when you buy a package only to mod major parts - we are still fighting this on a day to day basis. We have found with our recent uplift to SP4/5 that we have been able to remove some custom mods, however some of the new functionality in Aurora is tempting yet not complete enough for our requirements. As we will not be moving to Aurora until the second quarter of next year we hope that some of these areas may be enhanced by then. If not, we will have to decide between holding off from utilizing those pieces or modifying the software to work at the level we require. The sad part is that we will probably never see it installed at our facility. It will remain as mysterious and illusive as the Northern Lights. The problem is with the migration of our existing mods. The new ILERPG code has no mod marks in it. That means the man-hours required for retrofitting/testing our existing custom functionality into the new code will make that project cost prohibitive. I'm afraid the ROI for moving to Aurora just won't be realistic in our case. That being said, there is serious consideration being given to not renewing our service contract. There would be very little point in paying for maintenance if we were not able to move up to Aurora. Am I alone in this observation or do some of you see it the same way? I prefer to remain anonymous for obvious reasons. I'll understand if you don't reply even if you do agree. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
