Kevin,

By the numbers...
We are at V3.5.1 in the applications and V3.5.2 SP4 on the System Manager
PTFs...

1.) - I have had no such experience as this...

2.) - This did not happen to us but we had a similar situation where the Last
Run Date information was not being updated when the night jobs were executed...
Geac had a solution listed for this problem on Answerlink... Unfortunately
my Answerlink History has been lost during their recent upgrade to Answerlink so
I cannot give you that solution number...

3.) - Verify Allocations is included in the AMDAYEND job (scan your job log for
XA705) so we don't submit it by itself in Machine Manager so I cannot answer
this one directly... However, the CLNUSRALC command can no longer be executed
from within Machine Manager and this was an irritating disappointment to
me...!!! This command keeps the files that track your liscense (seat) usage
cleaned up... IPGCFF4/ICF03PHY and ICF04PHY... This inspired us to write a
module that would do this once every hour during the day and also capture
statistics on seat usage so that we could accurately measure how many seats we
are actually using... Geac does not provide this kind of tool, I'm sure they
would rather you not know how many seats you actually need in hopes that you
will over-buy... Or at least not lower your seat count when it comes time to
renew your maintenance...

4.) - For the Exploder problem, I'm wondering what version of that you have
installed at the plants... When we did an OS/400 upgrade one weekend a few
years ago we had V3.5.2i installed and that version would not run at all with
the newer IBM PTFs so we had an emergency scramble on our hands to get a fix
patch file distributed to all the desktops... A mass upgrade soon followed...
We're currently using the June 1999 edition of Exploder and do not have the
kinds of problems you're describing... What OS/400 version are you running...?
Are you up to date on the IBM Cume tapes...? Also are you having any other
kinds of comm issues not related to Exploder...?

Regards...

We recently uplifted our System Manager to SP4 (leaving our apps at 3.5.0b) on
our test machine. We have encountered some problems that I'm wondering if
anyone else has experienced and can shed light on remedies.

1. Coincident with the uplift, we noticed that WRKSBMJOB now responds more
slowly (a lot slower) than it used to. I've used DSPOBJD *ALL/WRKSBMJOB *CMD to
see if the uplift somehow created it's own copy of WRKSBMJOB (I realize what a
ridiculous idea that is...but I leave no stone unturned!) I further looked to
see if the command processing program QWCCDSUC was duplicated by the uplift. In
both instances, as I expected, no such duplications were created by the uplift.
We have found no other explanation of the slowdown of this command. This leaves
me with the question...is it really coincidental that the slowdown of WRKSBMJOB
occurred alongside the uplift or is there something I'm not considering.

2. A few days after the install, the job scheduler began looping and ended up
submitting 40,000 repetitions of the same job by the time we caught it. To
correct this, we ended the job scheduler, cleared the job queue, spent hours
getting rid of the resulting job logs, and restarted the job scheduler. Since
then it has worked fine. Our GEAC consultant thought this was related to our
using 99:99:99 as the submit time in some entries. However, this is the
documented way to run jobs at day start.

3. We discovered that Verify Allocations can no longer be run through the job
scheduler - it must be manually submitted.

[4.] In addition to the above, we use Explorer at our remote telecenters and
have continual problems on individual PCs of Explorer suddenly ending all
sessions. We are wondering if simply by upgrading System Manager on our
production system to SP4 these problems will be solved. Again, does anyone have
any experience with this Explorer problem and how it was solved?
