April,

We upgraded to V4R5 around May 2001. The only train wreck we had was that
for some reason the evening backup started hanging midsession causing
various problems for receiving EDI the next morning along with any other
function dependent on QBATCH/batch processing. That may or may not be a
backup scheduling issue, I don't do a lot of AS/400 so I've really not been
able to do an "in-depth" analysis of the problem other than to have our
contract programmer start the backup a little earlier.

Oddly enough the hanging backups seemed to occur depending on the tape being
used. I sent two of the "suspect" tapes back for replacement and the new
ones (which I've had for about two weeks) are performing well.

The only problem we're having now is that GLUPDATE has two messages each
morning that I cancel and ignore in that order.

--------------------------------------------------------
The first message is:

Message . . . . : Error message CPF4128 appeared during OPEN (C S D F).

Cause . . . . . : The RPG program CS201 in library OSLCSD3 received the

message CPF4128 while doing an implicit OPEN to file CSL12BAL. See the job

log for a complete description of message CPF4128. If the file has a
device
type of SPECIAL, there may be no message in the job log.

Recovery . . . : Enter C to cancel, S to obtain a printout of system

storage, D to obtain an RPG formatted printout of system storage, or F to

obtain a full formatted printout of system storage.

--------------------------------------------------------

The second message:

Message . . . . : RPG9001 received by GL331CLP at 9100. (C D I R)

Cause . . . . . : Control language (CL) program GL331CLP in library
OSLGLD3
detected an error at statement number 9100. Message text for RPG9001 is:

Error RPG1216 caused program CS201 to stop.

Recovery . . . : This inquiry message can be avoided by changing the

program. Monitor for the error (MONMSG command) and perform error recovery

within the program. To continue, choose a reply value.

--------------------------------------------------------

If I cancel the second message GLUPDATE crashes and I have to manually
restart it, so "I" it is :)

What does V4R5 have to do with any of this? Hard to say other than that the
timing is suspicious. I've been on the phone with IBM about this and they
don't seem to have any history of this situation so...

Other than that April, no known issues. Have at!

We are about to upgrade from V4R3 to V4R5. GEAC says they have uncovered no
gotchas. Does anybody know of anything I need to be concerned about?
I would appreciate any feedback.
