We had a similar problem crop up suddenly where what was a 30-45 minute process suddenly took hours. We discovered that by recompiling the appropriate logical file (which the SQL query "finds" if it is available) we were able to get back to more normal processing times. After that worked we then cleaned up INP95 itself by SQLing out old records and doing a reorg. These actions put month end processing time back into an acceptable (read short) range. I was looking at program IN024 to see if I could speed it up. I noticed that it runs a subroutine named BAKOUT for each item/stockroom. This executes an SQL open of INP95, reads all postings made for that item/stockroom after the month end, backs them out of the starting period balance, and closes INP95. Since we have to run the month end close the last day of the month because of G/L considerations, I don't see any purpose in doing this routine. Also, opening and closing the file for each item seems extremely inefficient. Having been burned before when I thought there was no good reason for something, I would like the groups comments in case my analysis is wrong.
