At the Financial User's Group in Orlando this summer GEAC folks spoke
about the Support issue. The speakers I'm referring to were Karen Thomes
and her replacement. I took notes, which I will share here, but I recommend
that you talk to your rep. (Since I don't speak for GEAC and I don't want to
lead you astray.

They explained that support for products is staged:
Stage 1 - Current version of Software (fully supported.)
2 - 2'nd stage (Maintenance Mode) (Still fully supported.)
            3 - Final Stage (Support ends) (3.5.1 goes stage 3 12/31/00)

But they said that Customer Support still goes on.... They will answer
questions and tell you if a fix is available in a later release. They'll help
with
work-arounds and other non-code issues.

What they said is that if you expect them to supply bug fixes for stage 3
software you have to pay a 25% upcharge on your support fees.

Since I can't remember the last time that we got a bug fix from GEAC in time
for it to do us any good, (we have source and do our own fixes), I don't see
this as a major problem.

That said, we are planning on going to the current version "as soon as we
can".

Just a reminder.

A letter from Geac Vice President of Customer Relations, Keith Smith, that I
received on April 12, 2000 stated that "standard support for versions 3.5.0 and
3.5.1 will cease on September 30, 2000, and December 31, 2000,
respectively.

As far as I can till from this group there are still many of customers on
these versions and hopefully you were already aware of this. You have an
option to pay (above and beyond your yearly maintenance fees) for support
beyond those dates.

If anyone has heard anything different please inform the group.
