We (Gold'n Plump Poultry) have been using multi-plant in 3.5.1 to do our planning for the past year or so. We are only using the MPS portion since multi-plant was not available for MRP at 3.5.1. We started up in multi-plant - not converting from single plant so we don't have any documentation of converting from single plant to multi-plant. We have several in-house mods in the JBA code to resolve bugs in the 3.5.1 code. We have been testing 3.5.2 SP3 and plan on implementing this version in September. The 3.5.2 version is much better but we still found a few bugs which we have fixed ourselves. We have reported some of these but could not wait for GEAC to get us the revisions before we moved on. At Gold'n Plump Poultry, we can produce the same product at more than one plant so multi-plant comes in handy. The 3.5.2 version is better at recognizing inventory at the other plants when netting against independent demand. We do have a few products that are scheduled at multiple plants so we put to use the sourcing rules and critical resources for this. Most of our products, however, are specified as having a primary plant. We may have another route set up for an item and the schedulers can decide to confirm an order to a different plant/route if necessary. Another area that we use extensively is co-products (both primary and concurrent). We had quite a few problems with the concurrent co-product processing in 3.5.1 and were forced to use primary co-products. These issues seems to be resolved in 3.5.2 also. We had a JBA consultant come in and help us set up our environment initially and that was a tremendous help. We plan on using a central model and have each of our plants set up as a plant model. We only run 1 MPS each night - the central model which collectively plans all the plants. The production details identifies which route should be used as the primary route and that is the one that is planned by MPS. In 3.5.2 we will have a sales forecast at the central model and we use the stock forecast to plan for inventory builds and maintain our safety stock. After the upgrade to 3.5.2 we would like to implement MRP and Production Control. This will be a big task though since we will need to evaluate data collection equipment, etc to ease the data entry required with Production Control. Any advice on tackling this process would be helpful! Hope this info helps!
