The following is a suggestion that details how to correct the root cause of
a large majority of failed financial sessions. The suggestion is based on
my experience as I/T Director at Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing.

At W-D, we held a meeting with all financial users (i.e. accounting,
accounts payable, accounts receivable) to discuss "how" they processed
finanical sessions. What we found out was that the user thought they had
completed a session once all the information had been entered for that
customer, but they did not realize they had to "exit", by pressing F3, the
option before the financial systems were updated. We taught the user
community to press F3 after they had input their information. The result
was a reduction of 80% in financial session failures.

A good example would be an A/R clerk applying cash to open invoices. Using
the cash allocation option in A/R, the clerk would match the customer's
check with the outstanding invoices. When the clerk finished matching the
entire check, he/she would remain in the option and do 1 of 2 things:

     take a break
switch over to an alternate session and begin on something else

While the user was doing either steps #1 or #2, the session would timeout
on the AS/400 and be signed off. The result would be a failed session. If
the clerk had pressed F3 after the check was matched, all sessions would
have been updated correctly.

I know this does not answer the attached question directly, but I hope in
helps each of you in reducing the number of failed sessions you are
experiencing.

Regarding incomplete A/P sessions (those with a status="I"), has anyone
dealt with recovering these?

We also have the same problems with unprocessed A/P sessions. What we do
to recover in A/P is bring down our subsystem in A/P and run Option 15
in APU Rebuild bal. update data queue. We are following the same
procedure in G/L. We are not live in A/R yet. I hope this helped you.
