We are using Explorer and have addressed the security concerns as follows.

To avoid the limited capability problem, you can set Explorer's initial
program to "*NONE" instead of "CWSINITIAL" in the ini file, then change the
users AS/400 user profile to call a program that checks to see if the signon
is via Explorer and is so call CWSINITIAL.

For file security, we set all JBA files to *PUBLIC *USE instead of *CHANGE,
and created an AS/400 user profile JBAUSER with no signon capability.
JBAUSER has *CHANGE authority to JBA files. Then change the owner of the
JBA menu driver program XA000 and batch driver program XA901CLP to JBAUSER
with adopt owner authourity.

The biggest problem we have with Explorer is that users like to end their
sessions by clicking the "X" on the window which causes the AS/400 job to
fail with an I/O error.

Subject: Re: Enhancements

I get the impression that JBA has no intentions of making any enhancements
to the base product set and that all efforts are going into the verticals.
I doubt I would have signed up for a five year maintenance agreement
without
the prospect of any product improvements. We use the JBA Help Line
occasionally and they do OK, but I certainly wouldn't have paid $60,000 per
year for 10 support calls that take a week or two for a response.
Personally, I think there are tons of areas where the base product can be
improved. I've only bothered to turn in one request for enhancement and
other than receiving a confirming e-mail I never heard from anyone about my
request. I could certainly make many more requests, but I don't want to
waste my time. Also, I was shown Visual Components during my sales process
and expected to have some type of GUI client beyond the basic Explorer
screen scraper. It is my understanding that Visual Components have been
abandoned. What are JBA's plans in this area?

Any comments?

We also have problems with support from JBA, many calls logged with the
helpdesk receive an initial response, but beyond that

we don't get much help at all.

We have been looking at Explorer as well, but it has created a problem with
security on our system. To get it working we have had to

set up user profiles, with *PGMR user class, limit capabilities *NO and
*ALLOBJ. Has anyone found a better way round this yet?

Also we recently moved to version 3.5.2b to cater for the new Euro
currency, but this has caused us major problems with currency
      conversions not

calculating correctly. Has anybody else experienced problems like this
      with 3.5.2b?

Steve.
