Good morning Joel, Thanks for your leadership in extending the understanding and use of the iSeries capabilities. As it seems inevitable, I would like to learn more about using the "IBM iSeries .NET Managed Provider". thanks Joel Cochran <jrc@xxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: To rpgnext-bounces@m "rpgnext@xxxxxxxxxxxx" idrange.com <rpgnext@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc 08/10/2005 11:46 Subject AM [RPGNext] News, updates, etc. Please respond to RPGNext Discussion and Information <rpgnext@midrange .com> Howdy Nexters, Its been a whlie since I communicated with y'all, so here is a brief list of items of interest: --------------------------------------------------------------------- Articles --------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a new article available at ITJungle.com, "Embedding SQL in RPGIV - Episode I". The article is the first of a two-part Primer for embedding SQL in RPG. You can view it online at http://www.itjungle.com/fhg/fhg081005-story01.html The second article should be up in the next week or two. The first one focuses on rudimentary stuff, the second one focuses on Dynamic SQL. These are prequels to my previous article "Embedding SQL in /free" at http://www.itjungle.com/fhg/fhg030205-story01.html I'm looking at potential articles, I'd love to get some feedback from you all on which of these you would be interested in: - SQL Stored Procedures and UDFs - Using the "IBM iSeries .NET Managed Provider" - Creating IBM API Wrapper Service Programs - SQL DDL vs. Native DDS --------------------------------------------------------------------- xRPG Core Library (RPGNext) --------------------------------------------------------------------- I made a minor change to the RNBUSLFLD Service program at a users request. It adds a couple of new procedures but really isn't enough for a full-on release. As such, now would be a good time to solicit the group for changes/additions they'd like to see. I'd also like to remind you all that all the procedures are documented at http://www.rpgnext.com/docs/procedures.php , so be sure to utilitize that resource. One request in the past has been to provide example code for each of the procedures, so I may try to do that this fall. If anyone has examples they would be willing to share, e-mail me directly. --------------------------------------------------------------------- RPGBeans --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is quasi-good news. One of my co-workers was *finally* able to replicate the nagging CALL STACK error in the CRTPTYPMBR command, and we were able to stop the error. The problem is that it caused another error, so it hasn't been fixed, but I feel that for the first time in forever we may be on to something. It isn't a show stopper, but I'd really like to get it fixed. --------------------------------------------------------------------- New Products --------------------------------------------------------------------- As always, I have way too many irons in the fire, but here are some of the hottest: 1) iHOC Query .NET - if you are on the beat team, you can move on to the next block. For the rest of you, "iHOC" is a windows program written in C#.NET that allows you to perform Ad Hoc SQL against virtually any database. It was originally developed in house to replace Ops Nav and has blossomed into a full-on commercial product. It is quite functional, and I'll be sharing more about it as we get closer to market. For now, you can get a sneak peak at http://www.ihocquery.com/features.php The site is in alpha status, so I give no guarantees as to links funcitoning and such, but it should give you a good idea about what to expect. 2) The iSeries .NET Productivity Pack - This is a collection of items I've developed for working in .NET that are specific to the iSeries. Some examples include FixedDecimal and FixedString classes, and iSeries Database Access Manager, and a server side tool for generating C# classes from iSeries files. The pieces parts have all been developed, I just need to finalize the packaging. Any suggestions or requests are welcome. 3) (WEB) Service Program - This is a new project I've been toying with for some time. The idea is to develop a service program that you bind with a CGI program that binds any other service program that YOU developed. My service program would then act as an "internal wrapper" to your service program making them available through your web server as a Web Service by generating the necessary SOAP and WSDL. This project is in it infant stage, so any suggestions would be more than welcome. Well, that's all for now, so until Next time... Happy Coding!
