I haven't used it, but I think it uses replacement values:

<record id="%RECID%">
   <name_first>%FIRSTNAME%</name_first>
   <name_last>%LASTNAME%</name_last>
</record>

Then your program would replace the %xxx% with the appropriate
information from the database.
