Welcome to the RPGNext mailing list! I'd first like to thank David
Gibbs for providing this service for us, it is greatly appreciated. I'd
also like to thank all of you for your enthusiastic support of the idea,
I'm glad the website and tools are helpful.

Since this list is new, I was wondering if perhaps we could do a brief
set of introductions? If you don't mind, take a moment to tell the list
about yourself, the software you write, and maybe how you use the xRPG
procedures. I'd also be curious to know which service programs and
procedures you find the most useful.

Allow me to get things started:

As for myself, you can read my bio on the site at
http://www.rpgnext.com/joel.php.

I work for an ISV: we write software for local government, specifically
Real Estate assessment management. We also host public real estate
information on an RPG-CGI website at http://www.vamanet.com. I write
mostly in RPG, Java, and PHP. I use /free exclusively, and I have
almost totally converted to SQL for database processing. As much as I
like to keep up to date, I'm still at V5R1, but I should be upgrading to
V5R2 pretty soon.

I began writing the xRPG procedures because of my initial frustrations
with Date handling in RPGIV and it just sort of blossomed from there. I
began to realize that ILE made it possible to effectively extend RPG to
have almost any features I needed, and so the library has grown from
there.

I still use the Date procedures the most. I also use the String
procedures extensively. "getTokens()" is probably my personal
favorite. I used to use the command procedures a lot, especially
overrideFile(), but with SQL I rarely override anymore.

That should do for now. Thanks for joining the list: I think it will be
a great addition to the RPGNext community!

Joel
