Well, I said that in my experience, I wanted to watch a program and see
what it was doing while running. I first chose only output for the PF.
And then I wanted to see what it was writing out on disk. It was weird
that I was not seeing the data written out as fast as I was expecting.
Then I changed the F spec to IF with Addition (like IF A), and after that I
could see data. I thought it was because, for example, if I needed to read
immediately that same record just written, it had to be right there. Then
I think I learned this option was better.

Daniel, this file is output-only. It is never used for input. I'm
curious if there's any benefit to defining it as Input-Add as opposed to
Output (my original post was unclear on that). I assume that it's just a
quirk of the dev who wrote the code.

Alan, I must confess that I don't follow what you're saying. My best guess
is that you're explaining why you might want to use an output-only file in
general.

Javier, so you're saying it could be a roundabout way of handling blocking
(as opposed to the direct approach with the BLOCK keyword). I could see
that.
