I hate to be the open source nag (actually I enjoy it), but open source
does this trivially.
Can you schlep it out to the IFS and use the base64 command? (See Richard
Schoen's QshOni <https://github.com/richardschoen/QshOni>)
If base64 is not already installed, yum install coreutils-gnu
