Assuming that easy means no looping, how about using XLATE lower:upper into a temporary variable and then compare - if the original differs to the translated one, you have at least one lower case letter. It might not seem much of an improvement over %CHECK but at least you're specifying the characters you want to test for, rather than omitting the ones you want to test for...
