Deliberate - yes. But not to "push" people - encourage maybe.

There was a significant cost involved in keeping the SEU syntax checkers up-to-date and I suspect that that was a stronger motive for IBM than any "push" towards RDi. It was also a statement that SEU was deprecated and should not be seen as part of the future - frankly, I think that is the correct view.
