last several digits are of any practical use for latitude and
longitude.

That being said, I think it will be easy enough for Scott to add a
higher-precision version of that function (which he proposed), which
could conceivably be useful for some other application. The hardest
part may well be coming up with a nice name for it, assuming the
existing one will remain in any case for compatibility reasons.

And he provides source, so for those who really need it Right Now,
they can modify or add it themselves. (No, I do not expect anyone
actually needs it that urgently. But if they did....)

If it were me, I'd just take the truncated value and call it good.
