Just because I can't help myself ... to match the original code for *IN41 the designation you would want is:

Dcl-DS Indicators Based(IndicatorPtr);
Record_NOT_Found Ind Pos(41);
End-DS;

To build on the examples Peter and Charles have already provided - and
get the result you >prefer< - how about:

Dcl-DS Indicators Based(IndicatorPtr);
  Record_Found Ind Pos(41);
End-DS;

Dcl-S IndicatorPtr Pointer Inz(%Addr(*In));

Chain(n) (client:employee#:planyear) Tmpep;
Record_Found = %found(TmpEp);

(Not tested.)

Brian.

I have these two lines of code.

What is the value of *IN41
if row found?
if row not found?

I prefer
if %found(tmpep)
*in41 = *on;
else;
*in41 = *off;
endif

But this is what I have to work with and understand.
