Can we see the RPG code and the resulting SQLSTATE when you execute it?
Also show the 'into' field definition.

Subject: Convert a date field to a 10,0 packed field
I am trying to convert a date field defined as a date back to a numeric
field.
I used the interactive SQL to test out
Select cast(wCurrent_date as decimal(8,0)) from sysibm.sysdummy1
and it returns the date as 20210713.
I also tested using values
cast(wCurrent_date as decimal(8,0)) into numeric_variable
both return the correct date.
However in a RPG program it fails and gives me zeroes for the result.
What am I doing wrong?
TIA
