I send the reports to the browser, plenty of tools to make it pretty, and
it can be imported to exel very easily

Hi Patrik,

I don't really agree with you ...

We have effectively stopped writing reports to printer files and replaced
these with Excel output.

From a user perspective they are much happier. (Have you ever seen a user
reading a report and manually entering the figures into a spreadsheet ? I
have and to me that is error prone and a huge waste of time.)

From a complexity perspective - yes it is more complex and there are more
moving parts. But that is our job, we have built tools that hide some of
that complexity and producing an Excel report is actually quicker than
writing the DDS for the printer file; in my opinion.

And while I have not done a lot with it Scott Forstie's articles on using
iACS Run SQL Scripts output to Excel are great.

Difference of opinion is a good thing, it makes you think about things
another way ... and you don't have to agree :-)

Cheers

Don

Hello John,

I think if you are talking about that level of hassle, you might as
well just generate the report as an Excel file already.

Allow me to repeat my answer from Jun. 12 to Don:

I think it's a bad idea to replace a centralized and proven solution with
some end user shadow-it'ish, wobbly Excel bolt-on. It adds more steps to a
given task. We all know what happens if we add complexity: The chance of
failure is higher.
