Vwrn, what I think Jon would have been referring to is that the
-standalone fields- related to a file are not necessarily contiguous in
storage. In the past, people have tried to define a based array with the
basing pointer set to the address of the first field, but without
putting the fields into a data structure.
But if the fields are defined in an externally-described data structure,
the -subfields- are contiguous in the data structure.
