I worked at a place once that has a bell that would ring to start work,
stop work and breaks like lunch etcetera.

As a contractor they relocated me to a desk right under this bell.

On the third day I put a chair on my desk, reached the bell and ripped the
wires out.

All the staff around me said I would get the sack.

Management observed people starting work before the bell was due to ring
and finishing tasks before having a break - the bell was NEVER reconnected
and I was not sacked.

I have a OPM RPG program that I added a new file to. All the fields in

added file are variable length fields.

I need to chain to the file and update a flag in that file.

I cannot compile the program because OPM RPG does not support variable
length fields.

I compiled using CVTOPT(*VARCHAR) but that does not convert the key

fields.

Is there a way to redefine a variable length field as a char field in a
logical file?
