This looks like it should be possible, as of 7.2 - that looks like when the fetch clause was added to the DELETE statement.

But you would not need to read using the cursor - unless you are doing something else with each fetch along the way, maybe keeping track of how many?

I don't remember the other things you wanted to do, apologies if this reply doesn't fit.
