Thanks to Jon Paris and Susan Gantner, a small simple tool that can greatly assist with this job is described here:

Source code in the download zip file shows how to invoke the needed IBM APIs to produce a simple "outfile" that you can easily query, using SQL, or Query/400, etc., etc.
