I think there’s another explanation and perhaps a Big Brain on the list can
help us out.

I think this error is posted when the system goes looking for additional
pages of the program. My guess is that the system saves the address of the
object when loaded and uses that address to fetch additional pages. When a
new object replaces the old one, the old addresses are marked as free or
overlaid. In either case, the attempt to fetch additional pages fails and
we get MCH3402.

I’ve been struggling with this annoyance for decades. My build procedure
archives old objects before the compile starts and I still get stung,
particularly on service programs.

Remember 1978’s “System/38 Technical Developments” publication? Sure would
be interesting to see that content updated—I like knowing how things work
under the covers. It’s a lot better than guessing.

Justin,

I just wrote a small test program with the API and it works fine... I no
longer have a MCH3402.

The original object is moved to QRPLOBJ.

Kind regards,
Paul

We use QLIRNMO but I've never found that it helps with MCH3402. Is there
some optional parameter you have to specify?

Thanks
