RE: [EXTERNAL] Question on file reading

The way I normally use files is as follows
dcl-f Ctxmitl04 disk(*ext) usage(*input) keyed
prefix('L04.');

then later
dcl-ds L04 Extname('CTXMITL04') qualified end-ds;

Within the code - ALL fields from this file require the prefix L04.
For example
L04.COUNT +=1;

Seems like a shortcut that can cost one. Is this a recommended way to populate a Data Structure? Wondering what the group thinks on this?

Personally I do not like these kinds of shortcuts. If someone is not familiar with the shortcut then analysis problems can happen.

In RPGIV - maybe this is true in free format - if a Data Structure is
defined with the exact names and sizes of the fields in a file when
the file is read is the data structure automatically loaded?

Personally I have never seen this before.
