I don't think Francois's example demonstrates the concept very well.

F24 shifts through lists of keys. F22 swaps key sets.

Base keys:

F3 - exit
F10 - history
F12 - return
F16 - delete
F22 - Alt keys
F24 - More keys

Alt keys
F3 - exit
F10 - search
F12 - return
F16 - details
F22 - Base keys
F24 - more keys.

We used to have screens set up like this. With ( oh the nightmares ) 30+ functions available from one screen. Thankfully all of those programs have long since been retired.

Here, F22 (SF10) shows a different list of fkeys. Repressing F22 shows the base keys


F19=Left F20=Right F21=System command

F22=Base keys F24=More keys
