A good idea, but many here on these lists may not yet be familiar with "git" and "github" and "gists" etc.

That's a fair point, but I think this would be a great excuse to
become familiar with them.

Perhaps someone should create a github "repo" for the MIDRANGE-L community to use as a "repository" for examples, samples, etc., and publish the link to it ... on midrange.com, in the wiki, etc.

There is already something vaguely along those lines:

https://github.com/OSSILE/OSSILE

It's not what I would consider newbie-friendly, though. I mean,
everyone who has contributed is friendly enough, but the repository
itself might be a little intimidating.

To get a feel for how GitHub and similar sites work, I think it's
probably better to look at "normal" repositories, which focus on one
project each, rather than consisting of a hodgepodge of mostly
unrelated mini-projects.

Another place to look is

https://bitbucket.org/ibmi/opensource/wiki/Home

which I think is a better format for aggregating examples. It's more
limited in scope than the midrange.com wiki, and thus easier to
peruse. In and of itself, the wiki on Bitbucket doesn't really tell or
show you much about posting your own code, but you can browse the list
of open source projects there and get a feel for some of the various
code-publishing options, based on what *they* use.
