Methodology for Decoding Very Large JSON Message

Has anyone attempted to decode a JSON message using JSON_TABLE, COLUMNS, etc that has a ton of elements, and many arrays within arrays? I'm talking like 2 - 3k potential elements.

I would like to know people's thoughts before I go do a path and hit a wall. I'm inexperienced with DATA-INTO in RPG but am with concept from XML-INTO. I'm familiar with YAJL but want to be open to other options.
